The Doomsday Signal came about when I was watching the end of Logopolis. The Master is on top of the tower, transmitting his signal. The Doctor stops him, but the signal does get out, even for a moment. I wondered what would happen if somebody actually picked up that signal. "This piddling little planet dares to challenge us?!? Let's destroy them!" I didn't originally intend for the story to be so comical, though it does have a great about of drama in it. But as I was developing it, I thought, "wouldn't it be funny if more kept showing up?" I feel that some of the best voice work was done in this particular episode.
